Eastlink has the distinction of being the first company of its kind in Canada to enter the telephone market, and the first in North America to combine cable, Internet and telephone service in a communications and entertainment bundle.

Eastlink has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 11 consecutive years.

More than 40 years ago, the Bragg family, known for its success in the wild blueberry business, made a decision to enter the cable television business with one of the first cable licenses granted by the CRTC.

Led by John Bragg, the company was and continues to be driven by a spirit of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurialism.

The first three decades brought rapid expansion and growth throughout Nova Scotia and PEI culminating in the creation of Eastlink in the late 90s.

It was at that time that Eastlink transformed the telecommunications landscape as the first cable company in Canada to launch local telephone service bringing much-needed competition and choice to phone customers.

While continuing to invest heavily in a fibre network, Eastlink successfully expanded its high speed Internet service to communities, large and small, across the Maritimes and quickly became recognized as a world-class provider of communications services.

In the early 2000s, Eastlink pioneered the industry yet again when the company introduced the now ubiquitous "triple-play" communications and entertainment bundle combining TV, high speed Internet, and local telephone service making it the first in North America to bundle all services on one bill for one price.

Eastlink continued to innovate by building on the strength of its celebrated high speed Internet service, securing its place as one of the fastest Internet providers in North America with speeds that grew from 5 Mbps to 400 Mbps in just a few short years. (Today, it offers speeds of up to 1 Gigabit.)

With a series of strategic acquisitions across Canada, Eastlink quickly grew the business to half a million customers from coast to coast becoming the largest, privately held telecommunications company in the country.

The company continued to grow its traditional lines of business expanding video programming and TV OnDemand services and launching more high definition content in under a year than any other provider in North America. This secured Eastlink’s place as the dominant video provider in its core markets.

Not only did the company continue to grow on the residential front, but it recognized the opportunity to bring that same creative and innovative approach to the business community, offering a portfolio of advanced business services for businesses of all sizes as well as government and other public sector customers.

Despite its continued growth, Eastlink recognized the importance of expanding into other lines of business, adding what was a natural fit for the business – home security and automation (affectionately called “Winston”).

The most pivotal and transformative decision in recent years has been the company’s foray into the wireless world, made possible by its successful showing at the 2008 wireless spectrum auction.

Driven by the same spirit of entrepreneurialism, Eastlink launched its award-winning LTE wireless service in NS and PEI in 2013. Since then, the company has expanded to Moncton NB, Sudbury and Timmins, ON and will soon grow into St. John’s NL and Grande Prairie, AB.

Most recently, Eastlink was lauded for its innovations and customer-centric additions on the video entertainment side including Eastlink Stream and TV Channel Exchange.

Headquartered in Nova Scotia, Eastlink employs over 1,500 people across Canada and has held the designation as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 11 consecutive years.
